On Saturday 3rd August, London’s central roads will once again be closed to vehicle traffic for one of the world’s leading cycling events, Prudential RideLondon. This free event offers families and friends the opportunity to enjoy a traffic-free cycle past some of the capital’s world-famous landmarks, providing the chance to see London from the saddle like never before!
Cycle along a seven-mile circuit past iconic London landmarks, including Buckingham Palace, the Houses of Parliament, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Strand and the Victoria Embankment. Every age and ability is welcome, and you can cycle as much or as little of the route as you choose: with no vehicles on the roads, younger cyclists are free to zigzag, wobble and stop as much as they like, making it a brilliant event whether you’re cycling enthusiast or fairly new to the saddle. The route is open from 9am to 4pm, so there’s no time pressure, either.
With its inaugural event in 2013, inspired by the cycling success in London’s 2012 Olympics, Prudential RideLondon teamed up with the London Mayor, aiming to encourage people to cycle more safely, more often. Now, the annual event attracts tens of thousands of participants and spectators, with many subsequently inspired to cycle on a regular basis.
Saturday’s free cycle forms part of the larger Prudential RideLondon weekend, which also involves longer cycles to and from Surrey, as well as professional cyclists racing in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey and Prudential RideLondon Classique. Catch your breath after your own cycling fun to watch the professionals battling it out, joining the millions of viewers who will be watching the live television broadcast, Make sure to explore the Festival Zones, too, with their huge range of bike-based entertainment, from music bikes and stilt bicycles, to penny farthings and rickshaws.
Located very near to Saturday’s cycling route, the Indigo Paddington provides a wonderful base from which to experience this cycling extravaganza! Take to your wheels and make the most of this traffic-free cycling – and enjoy relaxing with us after your energetic day.
